Welcome to the Museum of English Rural Life's Internet Farm and Countryside Explorer (INTERFACE)

The Explorer brings some of the information about our collection out of our Online database and presents it in a range of subjects, introducing some of the aspects of country life that are recorded and preserved at the Museum.

There are three different levels to the Farm and Countryside Explorer.

  • FOR CHILDREN : Explore the village green, looking at the different buildings and people you would find in a village in the past.
  • GENERAL : An introduction to the collections through the themes of Farming, Country People and The Countryside.
  • ADVANCED : The information in the Advanced section is similar to the General section, and also includes the museum's reference numbers, which are useful for researchers who would like to study the objects directly.

Feel free to visit all three areas in order to find the one you like the most.

INTERFACE is being continually developed and extended but cannot include everything in the Museum of English Rural Life's collections. For a more detailed search please try the Database Search Engine or contact the Museum if you have a specific request.

For information for schools studying Victorians and World War Two in Britain at Key Stage Two, see our new section of Schools information.

INTERFACE is supported by the Designation Challenge Fund.
