Hoop shaving: The ancient craft of hoop shaving had almost disappeared by the late 1930s, only the cessation of imports during the Second World War bringing a temporary revival.

Hoop shaving

Hoops were made in a variety of sizes, ending up in the cooper's workshop for use in the manufacture of barrels and casks. Here, discarded hoop shavings provide a thatch for the hoop makers' workshop.
