Tent
peg making: Stout wooden tent pegs were once
commonly used to fasten down the guy ropes of different sized tents.
The military were a major buyer of tent pegs, their custom helping to
prolong the craft's survival into the mid-1950s. In their makeshift woodland
workshop, one man roughly prepares the logs with a 'molly' and 'flammer'
whilst the other seated at his shaving horse, completes the pegs with
a drawknife. To the left, are pegs stacked for seasoning prior to collection.
Tent peg makers would often work a twelve-hour day, working in all weathers.
